Musée du Louvre

Place du Musée du Louvre, 75001 Paris

About

Its exhibits come from such diverse origins as ancient Egypt, classical Greece and the Roman Empire, medieval Europe, and Napoleonic France, but controversially including many items that were looted from their places of origin. Its most famous exhibit, of course, is Leonardo da Vinci's painting of the Mona Lisa (French: La Joconde, Italian: La Gioconda), generally to be found surrounded by hordes of camera-flashing tourists. The Louvre poses many of the same challenges to the visitor as Paris it.

Felt very welcome as a hijabi

I was nervous about wearing hijab in France given all the media coverage but honestly Paris suprised me. Nobody stared, nobody said anything. The diversity in areas like Barbès and Saint-Denis made me feel at home. The boulangeries dont always have halal options but theres plenty of halal restaurants if you look. The Louvre was incredible - spent 6 hours there.

    Not what I expected honestly

Paris was on my bucket list forever. As a Black woman from Atlanta, I had mixed feelings. The city is gorgeous obviously but I got followed in a store near Champs-Elysées which was super uncomfortable. Some waiters were rude but I think thats just Paris lol. The food was amazing tho and Montmartre at sunset is unreal. Would I go back? Probably, but with thicker skin.
