Methodology

Real sources, visible limits

MapSur combines public data, official indicators and eligible traveler reviews to help people understand a destination. Safe Places does not use AI-generated venue content: every displayed recommendation links back to a public source or an eligible MapSur review.

Safe Places sources

OpenStreetMap

ODbL

Place names, categories, coordinates and factual tags.

Wikidata

CC0

Structured public metadata for venues and cultural places.

Wikivoyage

CC BY-SA 4.0

Factual listing fields only. Public pages do not reuse Wikivoyage descriptions.

MapSur reviews

User-contributed

Eligible reviews only: visible traveler profile, active review, rating at least 4/5, and consent-covered publication period.

Coverage

Coverage varies by city and traveler profile. A category is shown only when there are enough sourced places to be useful. When data is limited, MapSur shows less instead of filling gaps with guesses.

Traveler profiles

Profile-based views use optional traveler profile information and eligible review signals. Sensitive profile data is not sold as raw data, and small groups must stay aggregated before any business reporting.

Limits

A listed place is not a guarantee of safety. Opening hours, ownership, neighborhood context and local conditions can change. Travelers should still check recent sources and official travel advice before making decisions.

Corrections

Incorrect, outdated or poorly classified places can be reported at privacy@mapsur.com.
